Indonesia plane crashes in East Java

An Indonesian military plane carrying troops and their families crashed in a residential area in East Java, killing at least 98 people.

The plane crashed early this morning destroying four homes and killing two people living in the homes. The plane was carrying 112 people.

The plane had a crew of 14 people and was carrying an additional 98 passengers. At least 15 passengers have already been rescued and were taken to a hospital in Madiun with serious injuries, including multiple fractures.

Rescue crews were evacuating the crash area where local residents say black smoke filled the air and the wreckage of the C-130 Hercules lay burning with its tail resting upside down.

This crash comes a day after another Indonesian Hercules transport plane crashed on the a runway after touching down early. No one was killed in the crash in Papua province.
