Vacant Homes on the South Side

Syracuse, N.Y

One in five of the homes are vacant on the South Side. Many people are moving out of Central New York and some landlords have just abandon their properties. These vacant homes are products of drugs and prostitution which has made home values decline causing more people leave.

"Every year we have more of them. Whether it's the landlord property owners that just move out of state and their properties fall into disrepair," said Lt. Cecile of the Syracuse Police Dept. "They just kinda leave them behind."

The problem is getting worse and not just in syracuse.
