Increased Cost for Madison Square Garden Renovation

"Supersuite" is now planned for the renovated arena

NEW YORK- Referred to as the "world's most famous arena," renovations to Madison Square Garden will take longer and cost more than originally planned.

The owners of Madison Square Garden say the complete renovation will be finished by the start of the 2012-13 NBA and NHL seasons. The original plan was for the renovation to be done a year earlier.

The arena, which is home to the NBA's New York Knicks, NHL's New York Rangers and WNBA's New York Liberty, is 41 years old and in need of renovations.

Officials unveiled new drawings of luxury suites that would include a 5,000-square-foot "supersuite" to entertain up to 300 people.

The renovations are not expected to disrupt the Knicks' and Rangers' seasons because most work will be done during the summer, although no start date for construction has been set.
