Syracuse, NY - Every day the Syracuse University Men's Crew Team can be seen practicing out in Onondaga Lake.
Their season is coming to a close, but the team has one last weekend of rigorous competition ahead of them at the Intercollegiate Rowing Association's Regatta in Sacramento, CA.
"Its such a tough Regatta to race in four times over a course of a weekend. The pressure and the energy you have to put out is just unbelievable," said Mike Gennaro, a sophomore crew member.
Ranked 11th nationally, the team has qualified four boats for the Regatta, which is regarded by many as the national championship of crew.
Coach Dave Reichmann said he is proud his team has come this far after losing so many members to graduation last year.
"This is a group that has pretty high expectations and there a young group and it's a really tough league we row in," said Reichmann.
The last time Syracuse University won the Regatta was in 1978. The semi-finals begin this Friday.
